Seaweed
Seaweed is a nutrient-dense resource, rich in iodine, calcium, and omega-3 fatty acids, making it highly valuable for the food and nutraceutical industries in both human and animal consumption. Certain species contain around 40% alginate, which is in high demand across pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and cosmetic applications.
Tunicates
A tunicate species from Norway’s marine fauna offers over 50% protein content (dry weight) and is packed with antioxidants and other valuable compounds. We are setting up a small-scale probe to validate the protein extraction process and the quality of the final product, with antioxidants expected to accompany the protein extract. The tunicates’ natural filtering capacity also holds promise for extracting metals, minerals, and cleaning polluted water bodies.
